A persuasive essay is used to persuade the reader to agree with your point of view.

Characteristics of a Persuasive Essay

  1. The question being answered is clearly stated in the introduction without giving away your point of view
  2. Topics guide the reader from one position to another (from disagreeing to agreeing)
  3. The reader is shown both points of view but is given strong reasons why your point of view is the best
  4. Uses facts and examples that support your point of view while also creating doubt in the reader's mind about the opposite point of view
  5. The conclusion clearly answers the question by boldly stating your point of view

Writing in the Real World:

Many writings such as critics, reviews, reaction papers, editorials, proposals, advertisements, and brochures use different ways of persuasion to influence readers.
